Professional Achievement Stories
Team Leadership & People Development
Successfully led a team of five to six members in my previous accounting role, managing workloads, delegating responsibilities according to individual strengths, and ensuring that deadlines and quality standards were consistently met.
As a young team leader, I learned to manage different personalities, solve team challenges, and create a supportive working environment. One of my proudest achievements was developing a less-experienced team member from having very low confidence to becoming a capable and independent professional. By identifying her strengths, assigning responsibilities that matched her capabilities, and providing continuous coaching, I helped her grow significantly in both confidence and performance.
Developing a Team Member from Low Confidence to Independence
One of the achievements I am most proud of is developing a team member who initially lacked confidence in her ability to perform the job.
When some people around us felt that she might not be suitable for the role because of her limited experience, I chose to look at the situation differently. I identified her strengths, adjusted her responsibilities to match those strengths, and gradually trained her in the areas where she needed improvement.
Rather than expecting her to become confident immediately, I gave her time, guidance, and opportunities to take responsibility step by step.
Over time, she became much more confident and was able to handle her responsibilities professionally and independently.
This experience taught me that good leadership is not simply about assigning work. It is about understanding people’s strengths, developing their potential, and giving them the confidence to perform.
Leading a Team as a Young Accountant
In my previous company, I had the opportunity to lead a team of four to five members while I was still relatively young in my career.
Being a young team leader came with its own challenges. I had to learn how to manage different personalities, delegate work, solve team problems, maintain quality, and ensure that deadlines were met.
I learned to assign responsibilities according to each team member’s strengths and experience rather than simply distributing work equally. I also remained closely involved when my team members faced difficulties, while giving them enough independence to develop their own skills.
This experience helped me become more confident not only as an accountant, but also as a team leader, problem solver, and mentor.
Foreign Exchange & Payment Risk Management (Turning an FX Challenge into a Business Solution)
One of the most challenging situations I experienced as an accountant was managing foreign exchange issues during a period of significant changes in Myanmar’s banking and foreign-exchange environment.
At that time, changes in Central Bank policies, exchange rates, and restrictions on USD availability created difficulties for both overseas and local payments. Our company was exposed to significant exchange differences, which could directly affect our financial results.
Instead of simply recording the exchange losses, I became involved in finding practical solutions. I negotiated with local suppliers to accept payment in Myanmar Kyat and worked around the exchange rates applicable to both supplier payments and customer collections. Where possible, I negotiated a supplier exchange rate that was more favourable than the rate applicable to our customer collections.
This helped us reduce the impact of exchange-rate differences and manage our payment position more effectively during a very challenging period.
For me, this experience was an important lesson that accounting is not only about recording what has already happened. It is also about understanding the business situation, identifying financial risks, negotiating practical solutions, and helping the business make better decisions.
Timely & Accurate Financial Reporting
Maintained a strong track record of delivering accurate financial reports on time. In my previous role, the monthly financial reporting deadline was the 5th of every month, including when the deadline fell on weekends or public holidays, and I consistently worked to meet this requirement.
My responsibilities included financial statements, reconciliations, balance-sheet schedules, cash flow information, and month-end closing activities.
Financial Controls & Payment Security
Strengthened financial control practices to safeguard company assets, improve the reliability of financial information, and reduce the risk of errors and fraud.
One notable achievement was preventing potential payment-hacking incidents by identifying payment-security risks and applying appropriate verification and control procedures before payments were processed.
Accounts Payable & Cash Flow Management
Managed accounts payable activities with a focus on accuracy, timely payments, vendor relationships, and cash flow management.
I coordinated invoice verification, payment processing, vendor reconciliations, payment schedules, and issue resolution while working closely with purchasing, finance, and other departments to ensure that payment obligations were properly managed
Accounts Receivable & Collection Management
Managed accounts receivable with a focus on timely collections, customer relationships, and dispute resolution.
I worked with customers and internal teams to resolve billing discrepancies, follow up on outstanding balances, negotiate payment arrangements, and improve the collection process. This contributed to healthier cash flow and helped maintain positive customer relationships.
Problem Solving & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Experienced in resolving complex accounting and business issues by working closely with management, suppliers, customers, government authorities, and other departments.
I have handled issues involving tax matters, supplier and customer settlements, payment discrepancies, and operational challenges, often requiring negotiation, coordination, and practical problem-solving to reach workable solutions.
Audit Coordination & Group Reporting
Coordinated multiple audit requirements, including local financial year-end external audits, foreign Head Office audits for group consolidation, internal audits, and government audits.
I took responsibility for preparing audit schedules and supporting documents, coordinating with auditors and internal teams, responding to audit queries, and providing clear explanations and evidence within required deadlines. This experience strengthened my ability to manage audit processes efficiently while ensuring financial information was accurate, complete, and properly supported.
Continuous Professional Development
Committed to continuously strengthening my accounting and business knowledge through professional qualifications, practical experience, and self-directed learning.
My professional development has allowed me to combine technical accounting knowledge with practical skills in financial management, business operations, risk assessment, problem-solving, and team leadership.
