Working Philosophy

My Working Philosophy

โ€œLearn from those ahead of you. Support those beside you. Develop those who come after you.โ€

I believe a career is built through more than technical knowledge. It is shaped by the challenges we overcome, the people who teach us, the responsibilities we take on, and the people we help along the way.

I started my career as a young Accounts Trainee who had much to learn. I was fortunate to have seniors and managers who were willing to teach me, even when I didn’t understand things immediately.

As I gained experience and eventually became a team leader, my perspective changed. I realised that the person learning from me might struggle with something that seems simple to me โ€” just as I once struggled with things that now seem straightforward.

That experience shaped the way I lead:

  • Understand before you judge.
  • Teach before you expect.
  • Guide before you delegate.
  • Learn before you assume you know enough.

Above all, I believe that professional success should not only be measured by how far we move forward ourselves, but also by the value we create for the people and organisations around us.

Core Professional Pillars

  • Resilience Through Relentless Growth:

Accounting and corporate life are filled with unexpected hurdles, from navigating complex foreign exchange restrictions and sudden staffing turnovers to relocating abroad and adapting to new regulatory environments. My journey has taught me that true professional growth comes from treating every challenge not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to build resilience, learn continuously, and expand one’s capabilities.

  • Empathy-Driven Leadership & Mentorship:

Effective leadership goes beyond assigning tasks or managing schedules; it begins with understanding people. Whether guiding junior colleagues or collaborating across departments, I believe in identifying individual strengths, recognizing diverse learning paces, and putting the right person in the right place. Good mentorship creates a supportive environment where team members can transform from uncertain beginners into confident, independent professionals.

  • Integrity, Collaboration, and Character:

Success in the corporate world is meaningful only when built on a foundation of genuine integrity, mutual respect, and ethical teamwork. I believe in working hard with absolute transparency, never stepping on others to get ahead, but instead lifting teammates up, smoothing workflows through practical problem-solving, and ensuring that people remember you as a supportive, reliable colleague.

  • Balancing Controls with Practical Solutions:

While standard operating procedures (SOPs), rigorous financial controls, and strict compliance frameworks are vital for safeguarding assets and ensuring accurate reporting, real-world execution requires adaptability. The true skill lies in knowing when to follow a process, when to question it constructively, and how to negotiate practical, data-driven solutions to help the business move forward.

  • Learn Continuously:

I believe growth begins with curiosity. Throughout my career, I have continuously developed my accounting, finance, business, and leadership knowledge through professional qualifications, practical experience, and self-directed learning.

  • Adapt to Challenges:

Some of my most valuable lessons came from difficult situations โ€” taking on unfamiliar responsibilities, managing financial and operational challenges, adapting to changing business environments, and eventually building a career in a new country. I see challenges as opportunities to become more capable.

  • Take Ownership:

I believe in taking responsibility for my work and focusing on solutions rather than simply identifying problems. Whether it involves meeting reporting deadlines, managing financial risks, resolving payment issues, or coordinating audits, I aim to approach responsibilities with accountability and attention to detail.

  • Develop People:

My leadership philosophy is rooted in understanding people. Everyone has different strengths, weaknesses, experiences, and learning styles. I believe effective leadership is not simply about assigning work; it is about helping people understand their responsibilities, building their confidence, and giving them opportunities to become independent.

  • Create Value Beyond the Numbers:

Accounting is more than numbers and reports. I believe finance professionals should understand the business context behind the numbers, identify risks, communicate clearly, and contribute practical insights that help organisations make better decisions.

A guiding principle that has stayed with me:

Sales Growth:

Accounting & Finance: “Numbers record the past, but true finance anticipates the future.”

Control & Risk: “Internal controls safeguard assets, while risk management turns challenges into solutions.”

Leadership: “Effective leadership begins with understanding, not just explaining.”
